Hello everyone, hope you've been well. 'And so it begins...' is coming down tomorrow, and it will be sad to see such lovely work go. But wonderful things are coming.
We're excited to announce that the next exhibition will be a site specific installation by local artist James Adair, 'The Ignorance of Bliss'. Adair creates large-scale wall paintings and installations, and his vibrant and bold use of colour forms a key component of his work.
James Adair’s practice deals with a variety of themes ranging from social and ecological issues to personal and shared experiences of growing up in the socio-political situation of Northern Ireland. Adair remained in the North East after graduating from Sunderland University in 2008 with a BA in Fine Art. He has since exhibited widely, and has a permanent studio space at the acclaimed Empty Shop HQ in Durham City.
For this original exhibition at the Cluny Gallery, Adair is producing a range of site specific pieces painted directly onto the walls of the gallery, taking the space as his inspiration. These pieces are characteristic of the artists practice of beginning from an idea of colours, images and flora and fauna but “nothing being clear until the end”.
While this might suggest a lack of order, in practice this reflects a process of building a piece up over time, overlapping tightly knit layers of rich, vibrant colours and shapes. For the viewer the result is an end product which consumes your attention and reveals an undeniably delicate hand.

'The Ignorance of Bliss' will run Tuesday 2 November - Saturday 11 December. The preview is scheduled on 1 November from 6 - 8 pm.
Hope to see you there,
Bron, Katie and Sheila
